Seen & Heard: Another Pret a Manger

••• P.S. 150 is having a Sidewalk Rummage Sale on Thursday, Oct. 6 (8 a.m.–3:30 p.m.): “Gently used adult and kids clothes, toys, books, household items, and lucky finds will be sold to help raise money for the 2012 fifth grade class trip to Frost Valley, Pa.” P.S. 150 is at 334 Greenwich (near Jay); rain date Friday, October 7. To donate items—and you need not be affiliated with the school—email Wendy Chapman at chapman67@earthlink.net. What doesn’t get sold will most likely to go Housing Works. P.S. Love the word rummage, even more if someone like Helen Mirren is using it in an adult context.

••• If you can’t make it to the new Pret a Manger at Church and Park Place, you can always go to the one coming to 350 Hudson (between King and Charlton; you may know it as the home of Jacques Torres). The space is more than 3,800 square feet, which is pretty big for a Pret, no? (This photo is of the Church Street one before it opened, mostly because I’m too lazy to take a new one. No, it’s not laziness. It’s more that sometimes I get tired of being the weirdo taking photos of things like fast food restaurants. Besides, I’ve never really forgiven Pret for ignoring me when I emailed them suggesting they stock a U.S. bottled water instead of Pellegrino for environmental reasons.)

••• I love my pug—as we all know—but I need a break now and again. Does anyone know someone BeloCa who takes care of dogs in his or her own home? My dog needs human contact (preferably a lap) for at least a bit of the day. Email me at tribecacitizen@gmail.com. Please. Also: If you have a small-ish dog. we’d be up for taking care of it when you go away (if you’d take Howard when we travel, of course).

••• Lo! I received a response to my email to the Department of Transportation about the pedestrian/bike path in northern City Hall Park: “Thank you for your email requesting reconsideration of allowing bicyclist on the Warren Street Path City Hall Park.  We have forwarded your email to the Bicycle and Pedestrian Program for their response. We appreciate you contacting The New York City Department of Transportation.” Almost makes up for alienating several folks in my building (I posted a note in the lobby).

  1. I finally got around to sending an email against biking on the north path. The whole thing is just a bad idea.

  2. Weve longed changed to our own bottled water.

  3. @Corey: Glad to hear it! I went to the one at Church and Park Place today for lunch—it was very nice and airy and the staff was really pleasant.
