Seen & Heard: Working Class Is Closing

••• The Marines recruiting office on Chambers is leaving (as indicated by the “for rent” sign on the window, which for all I know might have been there for months). The guy inside said they were looking somewhere on lower Broadway.

••• Working Class Emporium is indeed closing its doors. The sign says everything has been on sale since May 1—guess I haven’t walked down that street in a while….

Dosateria raw cane juice••• I finally got around to trying the raw cane juice at Dosateria inside Whole Foods. The color is sort of healthy-looking, but the flavor is like a vacation somewhere very interesting, all lime and ginger—and now I know what to do with the bottle of rum I’ve had for going on 10 years. (Acquiring bottles of liquor from around the world is an occupational hazard for a travel editor.)

••• Fika Tribeca got its beer and wine license, and it has a happy hour from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.: bottled beer from $4, house wine $5.

••• While Duane Park’s spring event happened Sunday, Bogardus Plaza’s has been rescheduled till this upcoming Sunday.

••• I hear the former Golden Krust space on Church is becoming a deli/convenience store, would could not possibly mean another 7-Eleven, right? There’s one a few blocks to the south…. (Then again, I heard it from the folks who told me that the Subway across Church was taking the space.)

••• See left for City Winery‘s annual (and free) Hudson Square Music & Wine Festival lineup.

••• I just heard from Dave that a sign on Valley National Bank’s door (170 Hudson, between Vestry and Laight) says the branch’s last day is July 31.

••• From Alycea Ungaro’s Real Pilates: “We’re having an open House this Sunday, May 19, 4-8 p.m. Pilates giveaways, goodies and games. Some free classes, food, drink and challenges—just to show how fun Pilates is.” Adam has been doing Pilates near his office in Midtown, and he swears by it.

••• The Sing for Hope pianos will be back June 1-16. From the release: “We also have John Varvatos and Arianna Huffington donating their talents to two pianos.” I shudder to think….

••• Two photos from Nicole of yesterday’s Obama preparations.

  1. shame about Working Class Emporium, I always found something quirky and charming there.
