Northwest Tribeca Construction Update

I wasn’t planning to do a construction update, but after I walked around northwest Tribeca yesterday afternoon, it was kind of hard not to.

First up: 460 Washington. I took a photo of the Related rental behemoth from the water a couple of weeks ago, but it’s on Washington that you really see how much it’ll dominate that stretch. And it’s just past halfway to its full ten-story height.

Its partner in the 288 West sandwich is 290 West, at the corner of Canal—where the gas station used to be. (I can hear kids now: “Mommy, what’s a gas station?”) It’ll be nine stories when done, with no apartment smaller than a three-bedroom, according to the signage (which also promises “a kaleidoscope of river, park and city panoramas morning to night”—translated from the Swedish, perhaps?)

Asbestos abatement is starting at 432 Washington, meanwhile, and lasting through June, 2015. This is not part of the other Related project in the area (268 West), but demolition is almost certain—so maybe Ponte Equities is getting ready to start development on the half of the block it didn’t sell to Related?

A success story: The renovation of the landmark at 502 Canal looks fantastic—with planters and everything! It’s set to be residential.

And the rehabilitation of 506 Canal, its neighbor to the west, is underway.

The Spring Street Salt Shed (at Spring, Canal, and West), is dormant for now.
