Seen & Heard: The Chambers Street Stink

••• The Hudson River Park tennis courts have been resurfaced. They’re very blue.

tennis court courtesy Hudson River Park••• [There was an item here about a new Sweetgreen salad that they wanted embargoed till next week (but didn’t mention in the release). I removed it because I’m trying to be nicer person, but don’t push me on it, OK?] UPDATE 7/23: Well, Grub Street ran it today, so there’s no point in my holding back. From the press release: “Sweetgreen and wastED (a project of Blue Hill) have collaborated on the wastED salad, which will launch next Tuesday, July 28. ” It includes “broccoli leaf, romaine heart, carrot ribbon + arugula mix, roasted kale stems, broccoli stalks + cabbage cores, shaved parmesan, spicy sunflower seeds, homemade croutons, pesto vinaigrette.” The price is $8.60.

Sweetgreen••• My husband reports there were more fireflies in City Hall Park last night (around 8 p.m.) than he’s ever seen there. It reminds me of the time we were dining at ROC and the everyone there was transfixed as a firefly wandered around the room….

••• Due to an editing error, I neglected to include Gran Morsi in the happy hour roundup (and it includes pizza!): Monday through Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the bar: $8 specialty cocktails and select wines by the glass; $8 margherita pizza from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the bar only.

••• Do you think the work happening on Chambers between Church and Broadway will fix the abhorrent smell that’s always at the northwest corner of Church and Chambers?

••• For a while, it wasn’t clear which subway lines might be covered up in the signage at the Corbin Building (adjacent to/part of the Fulton Center):

Corbin Building 12414Now we know:

Corbin Building 72115

  1. They will ultimately need to make room for the W if that line is reinstated as expected (which will run on the R line to Whitehall Street). I believe the E might ultimately be linked up as well; but I may be mistaken on that one.

  2. glad someone else noticed that smell…

  3. It’s horrid and sadly, it likely means yet another tear up of the intersection. I live on Chambers btw Church and B’way and it’s pretty much been four years of hell. It’s looking not bad now but soon they’ll be tearing up the buildings on the south corners of Chambers and Church. That will be more fun to come! Sigh…city life.
