••• When I first spotted the sign reading “AZABU” outside Daruma-Ya, I assumed that Sushi Azabu was streamlining its name. But then I saw that Daruma-Ya isn’t on OpenTable; instead, Azabu is—and the description sounds like Daruma-Ya. I walked over: Sure enough, Daruma-Ya is now Azabu, and that encompasses the upstairs dining room and the downstairs sushi restaurant.
••• James, whose knowledge of (and tolerance for) the Department of Buildings website far outstrips my own, points out in a comment that the forthcoming urgent-care facility at 87 Chambers will indeed be an outpost of CityMD.
••• The Soho Garden deli at 307 W. Broadway, just above Canal, has indeed closed. The interior has been gutted, and a reader has heard it could become a pet store. Anyone know anything? Also, according to another reader, Drew, “That leaves Thompson’s Finest Deli at 20 Thompson, M&O Deli at 124 Thompson, and M&M Deli at 529 Broome as the only delis in Soho.” There’s still the one at the corner of Spring and Hudson, it occurs to me now, although maybe that’s not Soho.
••• The former Quiznos space on Chambers no longer has a “for lease” sign in the window. That’s usually a sign something is up. A nearby worker said the word was it’d be a sandwich shop, which leads one to fear that the Subway further west on Chambers is moving there.
••• I was checking out Yo! Venice!, about Venice Beach in California, when I noticed a help-wanted ad for Shinola store opening there (too) this fall.
••• A very pretty invitation from Salomon Arts Gallery.
••• Another day, another photo of 56 Leonard…. I’m actually not obsessed with it, although I am curious about whether the top can redeem the rest. The reason for this photo, however, is the highest glassed floor on the right. That’s what I had hoped we’d be getting more of, instead of randomly applied balconies.
