Another Salon Has Closed
F.S. Charlie Salon, at 317 Church (between La Colombe and T&T Plastic Land), is closing this week. It had previously been called Rare by F.S. Charlie, and before that it was Rare by Ruth Roche. The last day is Saturday, and all fixtures are for sale. That block gets so much foot traffic, thanks to La Colombe, but maybe that’s problem, if it has led to a rent increase.
P.S. The “another” in the headline refers to the Rheanne White Salon on Jay closed back in July.

Another rent increase
I loved this salon and it’s another loss of an independent neighborhood business. After 15 years in that location, the landlord offered to renew the lease with a 50% rent increase, less a discount of $1,000 for being good tenants. Sure!
The majority of F.S. Charlie’s clients were locals who now have to find somewhere else to go, like the brand new Nexxus salon on N. Moore St where you can have your hair cut by Kevin Mancuso for $750.
That’s if the Nexxus salon were to every actually be open….
At 750 a cut you don’t have to work a lot to make a living!
