Another Parking Lot Is Making Way for Condos

14 WhiteRobert Ripps spotted the Dreaded Drill of Destruction at the parking lot on the northwest corner of White St. and Sixth Ave. (just north of where DDG is planning its double-triangle condominium and south of the fugly new hogepodge).

The plans filed with the Department of Buildings say 14 White will be an eight-story residential building developed by NAVA and designed by DXA Studio, with retail and parking for one car on the ground floor, one apartment on floors two through six, and a duplex on the top two floors.

“We are very early in this process and are just beginning with design ideas, massing etc.,” replied NAVA’s chief creative officer, David Ruff, when I emailed about a rendering. “I look forward to sharing our thoughts once they are more resolved.” So perhaps the DOB filing was premature—we won’t be able to see it till it’s approved—but the size is unlikely to change by much. The lot is in a historic district, so the design will need to be reviewed by Community Board 1 and approved by the Landmarks Preservation Commission.
