“A handcuffed shoplifting suspect jumped out of a marked police cruiser in Tribeca and fled into a subway tunnel Thursday, setting off an NYPD manhunt, police said.
He’s the seventh prisoner since June to escape and leave cops red-faced.
According to sources, the fleet-footed crook was caught stealing jeans at a Gap store on Broadway near Maiden Lane in the Financial District. He was being taken to the 1st Precinct’s stationhouse when he bolted at 7:45 p.m., at West Broadway and Franklin St.
From there, he jetted toward Varick and Franklin St., heading to the downtown 1 train stop. He ran down a catwalk and into the tunnel, sources said.
The NYPD sent in K-9s, bloodhounds and Emergency Services Unit members to track the man. Cops expanded the dragnet to include the South Ferry and Brooklyn Bridge area at 8:15 p.m.”
They found him.
