Seen & Heard: Is Baluchi’s Coming Back?

••• An intriguing rumor has come up about Pakistan Tea House. After James discovered that there was an issue with the gas line (that’s Hudson River’s photo below), Farid says that a Baluchi’s sign was spotted inside. (If you just moved here, the Baluchi’s chain of Indian restaurants used to be at the southeast corner of Greenwich and Warren.) I tried calling the “press and general inquiries” phone number on the company’s website, but the number was “temporarily disconnected.” So I sent an email but that rarely works with restaurants.

••• It’s been a long time since any new building around here has included a clock. (This is 10 Sullivan, the one with the rounded prow of a southern façade, as seen from the north.)

10 Sullivan••• Has 511 Canal (northwest corner of Renwick) always had that big picture window? If this listing is accurate, it’s on the market for $20,000 per month.

511 Canal••• Work has started in earnest on the Schnipper’s at 120 Church (Murray/Park Place).

  1. The clock on 10 Sullivan is a signature gesture of Cary Tamarkin, whom I believe designed the building. Considered among the recent additions around the neighborhood, it is quite handsome.

  2. I noticed on Seamless that there was a “new” Baluchi’s at 176 Church, which is the Pakistan tea house address.
