••• Casey Neistat’s vlog today is nominally about “rocket shoes,” which get tested in Tribeca, but the highlight is when Neistat goes into the Harley-Davidson of NYC showroom to complain about how the store does nothing to stop a customer from riding his motorcycle on the sidewalk. “I’m not going to yell at a forty-year-old man,” responded the staffer, unsatisfactorily. You can skip ahead to the 6:30 mark.
••• Founded by a bunch of small businesses in Tribeca, the new Tribeca Alliance is having a meeting and you’re invited: Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Millenium Hilton (55 Church). They’re going to talk about the changing nature of the neighborhood, the high cost of doing business here, and more, and city officials are expected to attend. RSVP here.
••• No sign of any work at the Target store opening in Tribeca. When the company announced the store last November, it said it’ll open in October of this year.
••• I went to the 9/11 Memorial over the weekend—you know, for kicks—and I thought it was interesting to see the current size of 3 World Trade Center relative to 4 World Trade Center. When 3WTC is done, it’ll be 80 stories (vs. 4WTC’s 72 stories). Also, could they be any closer together?
••• Community Board 1 posted these two “for discussion and illustration only” conceptual drawings of Trinity Church’s 74 Trinity; the church has held a series of public meetings about what to include in the new building.
••• The office building at 396 Broadway is being converted into a hotel, and work appears to have begun in earnest. We still don’t know which brand it’ll be, but I’m no longer wagering that it’ll be an Ace. The website of developer Bridgeton Holdings has new renderings of a guest room and the lobby, including the Blue Bottle café, and they’re not at all Ace-like. (Then again, the text makes it sound like they’re still looking for a partner, which is odd.)
