Seen & Heard: Another JR Mural Is Going Up Today

••• The Alex & Ani jewelry store at 156 Reade looks (a) confirmed, and (b) very close to opening. Thanks to the reader who sent in the pic.

••• Remember those posters touting a Rag & Bone men’s store opening this fall in Tribeca? “The details on this store are still very much in flux,” replied a rep when I asked if it’d be in the former Bubble Lounge space, “but we will be sure to keep you in the loop once we have some more official information to share!”

••• From a reader: “Any idea why construction at Citigroup is allowed after hours? They start at 7 a.m. and do not end until 11:45 p.m. during the week and all day Saturday. I have submitted many 311 complaints with no response. It’s pretty sad, the neighborhood is very residential and the late night banging is very loud (jackhammer, dumping of heavy materials). It seems that the noise is louder above street level (I live on the 6th floor), but I am still confused on how they can get an after-hours permit in such a residential neighborhood.” I responded that Citi appears to have a variance, but I didn’t dig through the permits, so I don’t know what the hours allowed are. My advice was to contact Community Board 1 at man01@cb.nyc.gov, to make sure that CB1 knows the after-hours work is driving neighbors crazy. Get others to do it, too. Then CB1 can reach out to the DOB (in case the DOB doesn’t ask before granting these) to let them know that this can’t go on for the next four years.

••• JR, the artist responsible for the ballerina at 100 Franklin, is starting another mural at the site today. Apparently it’s going to be from his “Unframed Ellis Island” exhibition, of a photo originally shot at Ellis Island in 1908.

••• As of this week, Café Altro Paradiso is now serving lunch Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays (as well as on weekends).

  3. James & reader,

in short DOB allows them to work every weeknight from 5pm to 12 midnight! The bulk of what they are doing is the plaza so I don’t quite understand why they simply close it down and work during normal business hours.
Perhaps the shitibankers need quiet when THEY are working? Hmmmmm…..
