Seen & Heard: Luke’s Lobster Is Said to Be Considering Tribeca

••• Canal General Merchandise, a.k.a. Hot Rod, at the northeast corner of Canal and Greene has closed. (Flyers on the door direct customers to 317 Canal, but there was nothing there—yet?) Back in May, the listing included Canal Rubber, in the same building, but they said that was a mistake on the landlord’s part and they’re not going anywhere.

••• The Cosmopolitan Hotel is now The Frederick Hotel. The lobby bars are shooting to open in December.

••• I hear that Luke’s Lobster is sniffing around one of the new retail spaces on the 30 Park Place plaza. But the company’s media rep said, “At this time I am not aware of any new locations in New York.”

••• When did Nelson Blue in the Seaport change its name to Kiwi Cuba? (Probably along time ago. Never been inside.)

••• Lloyd Cole is playing City Winery on November 25. Below: “Are You Ready to Be Heartbroken,” with the Commotions.

••• Press release about an event today: “NYC kids will have the opportunity to deep dive into the Hudson River—environment that is!—at Submerge: Hudson River Park’s NYC Marine Science Festival. Join us for citizen science, free hands-on activities, kid-approved science entertainment and presentations by renowned scientists. Enjoy kayaking, fishing and activities galore!” It’s 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Pier 26.

  1. Saw the new The Frederick sign the other day and thought, “Oh, they must have gotten rid of all of the SRO’s!” However, look up at the windows on the Chambers/West Broadway side – looks like there is one hold out! Viva Old New York – though I’m sure it’s just “a storage room”.
