In the News: Tribeca Citizen in the New York Times

••• While I have had my photo in the New York Times once before (back in 2001), I was just some guy on the sidewalk. So it was a special thrill to not only be featured in a New York Times article about hyperlocal websites, but also to be identified in a photograph (online, anyway—my pic didn’t make the print edition). One quibble: “Hoping to fill the digital void,” as the headline reads, is not exactly how I would describe my aspirations.

••• The New York Times has an article about how “Tribeca has been through this before. Three times in recent decades it has been the center of terror: residents recount the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center that left six dead and the collapse of the twin towers after they were struck by hijacked jetliners in 2001.” It seems a stretch to imply that we’re in a constant state of PTSD, and the phrase “residents recount” is weird, because no one in the article mentions the 1993 bombing. But it’s nice to see Yvonne Fox of Dudley’s Paw included.

••• More thefts in the Tribeca Trib police blotter, including this head-scratcher: “A 49-year-old Manhattan man parked his car and went shopping. While he was gone, a thief removed $9,150 worth of items from the trunk including 20 watches, 15 belts, 7 bags, 6 pairs of jeans, 4 pairs of men’s shoes and 2 bracelets. There were no signs of forced entry and the victim did not remember if he had locked the car.”

••• An ad in the back of WSJ magazine for 10 Corso Como says that it’s “arriving Fashion Week 2018” in the Seaport District. That would appear to mean February. UPDATE: Luis from FiDi Fan Page says that it’s the Fashion Week that’s in September of 2018.

••• The West Thames pedestrian bridge is delayed by at least nine months. Also, “The second Lower Manhattan pedestrian span that appears to be falling behind schedule is the Morris Street bridge [rendering below], which will cross the plaza of the Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel, behind the Battery Parking Garage. [But] a spokesman for the MTA did not respond to requests for clarification.” UPDATE: “The Morris Street bridge update is a little stale,” says Brian on Facebook. “About a week ago the placed a new span across the road and appear to be actively working on it.” —Broadsheet
