Seen & Heard: New Phone Store on W. Broadway

••• The last thing the Beekman Hotel’s condo tower (115 Nassau) should want to do is draw attention to itself, especially the crown, but no: It lights up and the colors change.

••• The former Wicked Juice & Kitchen space at 88 W. Broadway was rumored to be getting turned into a Dunkin Donuts, but there’s a bunch of what looks like Verizon crap inside. UPDATE: “I wouldn’t count out Dunkin Donuts yet,” says N. “The materials in the picture have been there since right after Wicked Juice closed and it might be that the landlord is letting the check cashing place next door, that did or does have a Verizon counter, store them temporarily.”

••• From Caitlin: “I went to the new ice cream shop (Sprinkles Land) you mentioned that just opened up on Park Row right next to my school. Saw their food pics on Instagram and wanted to give it a try. They have really special soft serve ice cream served in wine glasses! They sell dim sum and bubble tea too.”

••• Frenchette gets closer and closer…. The main restaurant entrance is on the left—love the curved glass—and a separate bar entrance is on the right.

••• From the Battery Park City Authority: “Please be advised that beginning today, Monday, February 12, and running through Friday, February 16, the Battery Park City Ball Fields will be closed to the public as BPCA replaces the protective netting surrounding the fields. So as to have minimal community impact we have planned this work to coincide with the low ebb of our permitting season, and have also notified all permit holders directly. The Ball Fields are scheduled to reopen on Saturday, February 17.”

••• The Cast Iron House conversion at Franklin and Broadway seems to rarely use the Franklin Street sidewalk it has had blocked off forever. It’d sure be nice if they gave it back to us as soon as possible.

  1. I think Cast Iron House people have given up working on the project. People seem to have moved into some apartments, but finishing the penthouse and other work seems to have been stalled for many months.

  2. Of course, just what the neighborhood needs, a phone store. So that they can order their necessities via app, instead of going to a physical store.

  3. I wouldn’t count out Dunkin Donuts yet. The materials in the picture have been there since Right after Wicked Juice closed and it might be that the landlord is letting the check cashing place next door, that did or does have a Verizon counter, store them temporarily.

  4. Didn’t think the Beekman tower could get any uglier.
    A circus light show?
