In the News: Three New Ice Cream Shops

••• Morgenstern’s is opening an ice cream shop/restaurant in the former Silver Spurs diner space at Houston and LaGuardia Place. Bowery Boogie is bitter about it, but it seems like good news to me.

••• Meanwhile, at Houston and Mott, Coffee & Cream by OddFellows Ice Cream Co. opens tomorrow. —Eater

••• And Van Leeuwen (above) is opening an ice cream shop at 45 Spring (Mulberry) on April 19—with another one in Soho to follow in coming months. On one hand, it’s probably great that all of this ice cream is just far enough away. Still, could we get a shop in Tribeca proper? —New York Times

••• “Postmasters Gallery in New York is now accepting donations via Patreon, an online platform used for funding creative projects, saying in a statement that it wants to pursue ‘a new model—a radical hybrid combining the strength of the market with the support of the community.'” —Artnews

••• The new owner of 272-274 Canal (at the southwest corner of Cortlandt Alley) “plans to transform the property into a boutique office building with 89 feet of wrap-around, ground-floor retail space.” —REBusinessOnline

••• More thefts in the Tribeca Trib police blotter, including this:”Someone stole two scissor lift controllers from the site, each valued at $1,200.”

••• Overheard New York says this happened in Tribeca.

  1. I have been complaining about the lack of an ice cream shop in Tribeca for years!

  2. Odeon does have an ice cream cart out in the warmer months and the ice cream is quite good.
