Seen & Heard: Woolworth Building Lights

••• The Ghostbusters insignia on the east side of the Ladder 8 firehouse sidewalk was mostly repainted. It had been removed during the renovation.

••• An update from Hudson River about Kingkow, the kids’ clothing store in the World Trade Center mall that had announced it would be closing: “After selling out everything in the store, they have managed to renegotiate and will reopen when new stock arrives, possibly a couple of weeks (or at least whatever’s happening is still in flux).”

••• “It seems like the Woolworth Building is experimenting with some outdoor lighting,” notes I. “Looks cool if you ask me.” Indeed, although the people who live directly across from it in 30 Park Place might disagree, depending on the quality of their window coverings.

••• Good Food Kollection, the company that rented the former Grazin’ space on Reade, had said it has two businesses in the works—a catering one, and a bagel shop. The company just posted logo designs for Sage & Zest, with a hashtag that indicates it’s a catering business and in Tribeca. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s what’s opening on Reade, but there hasn’t been a peep about the bagels.

••• Sandra says that rapper Nicki Minaj is performing at the World Trade Center mall tonight as part of the MTV Video Music Awards. (MTV is still around?!) UPDATE: “If you were planning to stop by to watch, it was taped last night and is all gone this morning, so don’t bother,” says Hudson River. “Spoiler alert: a gold throne and some other gold stuff, lots of special lighting, all of the storefronts were covered with black curtains. Didn’t hang around to see the performance, which must have happened very late.”

••• A couple of weeks ago, two Port Authority staffers at the World Trade Center Oculus asked if I’d be willing to answer some questions about the elevators in the complex. Would I ever! But it turns out they were interested in improving the signage, when the accessibility-related problems go way deeper, into the design. Anyway, now there are more signs.

••• “Law & Order: SVU” is back at Chambers and Broadway on Wednesday.

  1. Re the MTV awards: if you were planning to stop by to watch, it was taped last night and is all gone this morning, so don’t bother. Spoiler alert: a gold throne and some other gold stuff, lots of special lighting, all of the storefronts were covered with black curtains. Didn’t hang around to see the performance, which must have happened very late.

  2. The Woolworth has always had lights, even colored ones at one point. They’ve only been turned off due to the construction. Glad to see them back.
