Seen & Heard: Any Word on Best Market?

••• Angela Diniz, recently hailed by one reader as “the best crossing guard in the city,” has hit a rough patch. She has set up a GoFundMe page with the details. If you found yourself grateful for her efforts, why not help her out? And maybe get the word out to P.S. 234 parents?

••• Last month, the Tribeca Trib reported that Best Market’s lease was due to end this month, unless the supermarket chain and the landlord could come to a renewal agreement. I’ve reached out several times to the corporate office, but I can’t get any traction. Has anyone heard anything?

••• A new slate of shows opens at Soho Photo tomorrow, including Saman Genshin’s Seen Worlds: “A glimpse causes me to raise the camera and click. I then spend months, or years, rendering different worlds and moods through variations of a photograph. The images are taken on film and printed with photochemical processes and the variations are created from the materials’ reactions to extremes of heat, light and time. The results are these images from a psychological world which I understand well.”

••• Dr. Jimmy Sung, a plastic surgeon whose practice is at 65 Broadway, is moving to 52 Laight, which used to be the Baxter & Liebchen store. No word yet on when it’ll be ready.

••• The “Billions” TV shoot today will be bigger than initially expected; not only are signs at Church/Reade, they’re also at Hudson/Ericsson. And either “Billions” or “Ray Donovan” shoots Wednesday in the Church/Franklin area. And Tigertail shoots there Thursday. According to IMDB, it’s “a multi-generational tale of one family from 1950’s Taiwan to present-day New York” starring John Cho. (And then there’s the “God Friended Me” shoot on Tuesday.)

  1. I am not sure why they do not just turn the area around here into a film lot as we seem to have shoots, often over many blocks almost every day and certainly every week. The trucks on Reade Street almost always run all night. Last night, Reade, West Broadway even Chambers and other streets around here were all coned off. As soon as the film crews have wrapped their shooting, we are looking forward to ConEdison and their jack-hammers!! It simply MUST be time to dig the street up again.

    • Call 311 to complain if there are too many film shoots or they are disruptive. The film office can put a moratorium on a location to give it a break but the evidence has to be via 311 complaints.

  2. Too many film shoots on Hubert St and Collister. It’s every weekend and it’s very disruptive.
