Canada Gallery Is Moving to Tribeca

The lack of activity at 60 Lispenard, where L.A. gallery Regen Projects was supposed to be opening a New York outpost, was indeed a sign that the deal had fallen through. The good news is that another gallery is taking the space: Canada, currently at 333 Broome (below). Founded in 1999 by Phil Grauer, Sarah Braman, Wallace Whitney, and Suzanne Butler, Canada was originally in Tribeca, leaving as a result of 9/11, according to this entertaining W magazine profile from 2015, but I don’t know where. Anyone care to enlighten us? UPDATE: Heide says it was on Chrystie Street, which is a stretch to call Tribeca. UPDATE #2: “I think their original space was on Centre in a basement below Leo Koenig before moving to Chrystie after 9/11,” says Jack. That’s closer to Tribeca, at least.
