The latest among the healthcare chains: MedRite has opened an urgent care facility on Chambers at One Hudson. It reminds me more of the model of the place that was at 200 Chambers in that it has an X-ray machine and does some of its own labs. But of course the obvious connection is CityMD on Chambers.
MedRite has 23 locations in New York, New Jersey and Florida, with 11 more in the pipeline for New York City. They handle emergency care but also wellness visits, like physical exams for sports, school and work; flu shots; travel vaccines; etc. They were unsure of the staffing levels since it is only day 2 today, but they have five exam rooms. They take 17 insurances, and offer discounts for self-pay patients.
Acappella left that space almost exactly five years ago, in April 2017, after 23 years in that spot. And while rumors circulated for a while that they would open another restaurant, they (obviously) never did. Their sister restaurant in New Jersey is also closed.

I am always a little sad when a former restaurant space is taken over by a different type business.
Their X-ray machine is apparently up against the wall into 143 Chambers next door. Apparently there has to be an inspection to be sure it’s not leaking harmful x-rays into the lobby of 143. Space used to be a wonderful restaurant owned by a couple. The kitchen had a glass window onto Chambers
where you could see the owner/chef cooking. First thing Acapella did was paint over the window!
Robert, thank you so much for remembering the window of One Hudson Cafe! Tsuyoshi Horita smiled when I read your note to him.
