Seen & Heard: File Gumbo Bar opens next week

FILE GUMBO BAR COMING SOON
Neighbors say the new full-service Cajun Creole restaurant taking over the Mikele pizza place at 275 Church between White and Franklin is opening May 16. (That shot is taken through the window a few weeks ago.)

1ST PRECINCT TRIBECA MEETING
The 1st Precinct will host its “Build the Block” meeting for Sector C — which is most of Tribeca and Battery Park City, from Canal Street south to Rector east of Broadway — on Wednesday, May 11, at 6p on Zoom. See the meeting location and passcode in the image above. You can also figure out what sector you live in by checking the map here.

DUANE PARK’S APPEAL + MOTHER’S DAY REDO
Since Saturday was a washout, the Friends of Duane Park will hold its planting event on Saturday, May 14, from 10a to 2p. And there are other plans afoot: the outdoor Thursday concerts will start June 9, and since this is the park’s 225th birthday the Friends plan to celebrate with an outdoor dinner on Sept. 18. They have a spring appeal going on now if you want to donate.

WASHINGTON MARKET SCHOOL FAIR NOW MAY 14
The Washington Market School had planned its long-standing street fair (Philippe Petit waked a tightrope strung across Greenwich Street for the first one in 1986!) for May 7; it is now rescheduled for this Saturday, May 14, from 11 to 3, on Duane Park. Duane Street will be closed off for the event, which will include musicians, magicians, puppet shows, an inflatable slide, bubbles, live animals, and a food court featuring Laughing Man, Marc Forgione, 16 Handles, One White Street and Duane Patisserie. See the website here for ticket prices and raffle opportunities. Proceeds will go to the school’s scholarship fund.

CARDS IN METS TERRITORY
A. caught this shot of what is clearly a Northern Cardinal, doing his thing in the back alley of Chambers Street.

  1. File Gumbo Bar notes on their website that they only accept cashless payments, Wasn’t this made illegal in NYC in 2020?

  2. I love this shot of the cardinal in the alley. Great eye.
