Anish Kapoor’s silver bean, which has been under construction at 56 Leonard — the Jenga building — since February 2019, will be finished before the end of the year.
I am not sure this will give the residents above and across the street much comfort — the jack hammering lately has been a bit rough — but it is exciting to hear.
The sculptor’s team installed the first of 45 sections back in November 2019. And while things seemed to be chugging along (the sections were stored locally and installed piece by piece), covid put a halt on all of it. It remained half finished until September 2021, when the team was able to travel from the UK to get the job done.
Seriously, why should anyone care about this? Besides this building is a so called ‘architectural crime scene’, completely disregard all the people living near by. Clearly many find it amusing and ‘ interesting’.
I doubt it will ever be finished. The noise is just relentless it never stops. Morning to night. So unfair and arrogant towards the residents who live in proximity to it. Oh and when does the graffiti start?
