Chef Marc Murphy will reopen the Landmarc space this week

Chef Marc Murphy, who opened Landmarc on West Broadway in 2004 and closed it in 2017 to switch to an event space, will reopen the restaurant — now called Marc179 — tomorrow, Thursday. But there’s a catch — or a bonus, depending how you look at it: the restaurant will only be open three days a month for a set four-course prix fixe menu, with the remainder of the month set aside for events in what he calls MM Kitchen Studio.

The schedule so far: Thursday to Saturday, 5:30p to 10:30p. Reservations via OpenTable, where the upcoming dates and menus will be featured. Walk-ins are “highly encouraged,” with bar seats and tables being set aside for the neighborhood. You can also follow on Instagram for a prompt. See the March menu here.

  • March 7th-9th
  • April 10th-13th
  • May 16th-18th
  • June 20th-22nd

The menu will be Italian- (he spent a lot of time there as a child and as an adult) and French-inspired and will change monthly. Some examples from the March offerings: arugula salad with pan-fried artichoke; cacio e pepe; roast chicken breast with mushroom, grilled filone, lardon, and chicken jus; and a chocolate mousse with bourbon whipped cream for dessert. The four-course prix fixe dinner is $75. The wine list will evolve alongside the food menu, with new additions being added and rotated in by general manager Ryan Hyde (above with Murphy and chef de cuisine Aaron Diener).

The space is still two levels, with the semicircle five-seat bar downstairs along with two communal 18-seat tables, and 64 seats in the main dining room upstairs. (The upstairs also looks communal to me??)

Murphy started his career cooking in Michelin-starred restaurants (Le Cirque and Alain Ducasse à l’Hôtel de Paris); Landmarc was his first restaurant and he opened on in Columbus Circle not long after. He then joined the TV series “Chopped,” and is currently a Food Council and board member of City Harvest and sits on the leadership council for the No Kid Hungry campaign. The chef intends to be a regular fixture in the dining room and kitchen.

Curious to see if you can just stop by for a dish or it has to be the full four courses…
