Catching Up With New Kids: Ol’ Days

Ol’ Days opened on Warren nearly a year ago — the lag here is entirely my fault — and it is a lovely addition to the neighborhood. They have converted the former Mulberry & Vine space, but just barely: the layout is still the same, only the restaurant is now full table service starting with breakfast at 7:30a through late lunch. They close at 5p.

The company was started nine years ago by two Argentinian sisters, Martina and Juliana Fracchia, and their longtime family friend, Camila Basigalup. The two families have been intertwined for years: the women’s two sets of parents are partners in a huge food company that makes the syrups for coffee companies including Starbucks. One sister designs the menu and interiors, the other handles the business side of things. (“We make a great match,” said Juliana, who is in the picture below with her staff. “We started working together when I was 20 and we are used to working with family.”

The sisters are always travelling and were frequent visitors to the city; Tribeca was a neighborhood they always liked. “We love this spot — it’s very residential but there are also tourists who come by.” They now have another location in Nomad along with the two in Florida.

The menu is described as “farm to table” and their strength (IMO) is definitely in their salad bowls ($15-21), which are huge and beautiful and carefully prepared. My pal ordered a deconstructed wagyu burger off the handhelds menu ($17-24) without the bun and that was even presented nicely– not easy to do. I would go back for the vegan burrito with quinoa and roasted carrots, and while I was excited about the cauliflower and the concept was right on, it is served cold on a too-sweet bed of carrot mash and drizzled with honey. The tea service is very nice, so while I have just been three times for lunch, this is a great breakfast option. Try the upstairs if you have a group.

Their logo is the orange flower, so they have decorated with orange trees and oranges throughout. Their grandmother gave them a passion for cooking, Juliana said, and the three created the menus together.

NB: They cater, and the platters look fab. Great idea for a boozy brunch party.

  1. Love this place. Best Avocado toast around. And everything is fresh.

  2. Agree, we love this place. Good food, friendly staff and family friendly

  3. Good food but they charge 50 cents for milk for coffee or tea, butter for bread as well as other small items that normally come with an order. Not a lot of money but really?
