TEEN CHARGED WITH MURDER IN HUDSON SQUARE SHOOTING
NBC New York reports that a 19-year-old was charged with murder in the shooting of the teen in the public open space just east of The Dominick hotel. rom NBC: “Henry Thomas was arrested by U.S. Marshals Friday afternoon in Harlem in connection with the deadly shooting of 16-year-old Mahki Brown on May 7 in SoHo, police said.” Mahki attended Broome Street Academy Charter High School just down the street.

FORENSICS ON THE ANN STREET GARAGE
Crain’s reports that the Department of Buildings has determined that the Ann Street garage was not overloaded when it collapsed, but they have not shared a copy of the report yet. From Crain’s: “Last week, relatives of the garage worker killed in the collapse — 59-year-old Willis Moore — filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the garage’s owners, 57 Ann Street Realty Associates. The company’s leaders are identified in city records as Alan and Jeffrey Henick; prosecutors have not announced any charges against them.”

FEARLESS GIRL CAN NOT BE REPLICATED BY ARTIST
US News reports that the sculptor who created “Fearless Girl” has settled a lawsuit brought by a State Street Global Advisers, which installed the statue, to stop the artist from selling replicas. The suit said her “replicas undermined its message that responsible companies support gender diversity, and female leaders help them perform better. It also said the unauthorized replicas damaged its goodwill, and amounted to copyright and trademark infringement.”

OFFICE VACANCY RATES UP IN LOWER MANHATTAN
Crain’s reports that the office vacancy rate is up to 24.7 percent, according to the Downtown Alliance (I have yet to read their annual report, but will). Rents for those spaces are also down, to $59 per square foot compared to $85 in Midtown. But tourism is up. The district’s 43 hotels had an occupancy rate of 74 percent, the highest in the first quarter since 2008.
