iPizza on Chambers is permanently closed

I am catching up to this news: iPizza, which was the second home on Chambers for Pizza Amore, has closed permanently. They opened at 155 Chambers in 2022, after closing their longtime slice shop, Pizza Amore, a few doors down. Neighbors estimate that Pizza Amore was on the block for 30 years. (Thanks to M. and M. for the tips, and to James Bogardus, for first noticing the ‘for rent’ sign in March.)

This reminds me — once again — that I am belated in my Retail Vacancy Report for the neighborhood. However, my daughter and I did walk Chambers Street from Broadway to Greenwich, and a quick glance at my notes shows 23 empty storefronts in May. (One will get filled soon, with Tribeca’s first legal cannabis store.)

iPizza opened in November 2022, and said at the time that the rent at the former space — it was huge — was just too much to manage. This past March, James saw a sign on the fire escape noting that both iPizza and maybe 16 Handles were for rent.
