H&M closing at the World Trade Center

Crain’s reports that the giant H&M at the World Trade Center — at Church and Fulton in Westfield’s 4 WTC — will close on January 23 after nine years at that location. (Thanks to J. for the tip.) The store on East 86th Street will also close, and 62 employees between the two stores will be laid off.
“The stores were underperforming, an H&M spokesperson said in a statement,” Crain’s said. “’While physical stores will always remain important to us and something we continue to invest in, having the right stores in the right locations is vital to ensure our long-term and sustainable growth,’ the spokesperson said.”
The report comes from Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filings made public Friday.
There are another eight locations in the city, including Broadway and Houston. The chain, based in Stockholm since 1947, is owned by H&M Group, a global fashion and design company, with over 4,000 stores in more than 79 markets and online sales in 60 markets. Other brands include COS, & Other Stories and Cheap Monday.

Do we think Uniqlo will move in?
Sorry to see another large and reasonably-priced clothing retailer exit Tribeca.
The last clothing/department store that I remember leaving the Trade Center area was Alexander’s in the old WTC (yes, this goes back a number of years). I am not counting Century 21, since they are back.
Does anyone else recall a store of this size and type closing here?

I think there are four new locations according to Fast Company: Williamsburg, Union Squar, Bryant Park, World Trade Center
