January 13, 2026 Restaurant/Bar News
Despite all of our New Year’s resolutions, it seemed like a good time for a roundup on the incoming carb joints, since we have a couple of new slice shops and three new bagel places slated to open soonish. Here goes:
THE BAGEL WARS
Tompkins Square Bagels, which first opened on Avenue A in 2011, is coming to the Independence Plaza retail space on Greenwich and Franklin, confirmed on Instagram. There are four other locations in the city. They are hoping for spring.
PopUp Bagels: The last update on the bagel store for Greenwich and Reade was early 2026. Awaiting news soon.
Modern Bread and Bagels: The gluten free shop is coming to Church and Duane in the former Sonder hotel. Sonder is out of business but Modern said they were still on track to open. “We are still waiting on some city inspections unfortunately,” they said this week. “Still no definite date but hopefully soon.”
Apollo Bagels: The local chain is coming to the former Kings space on Bogardus Plaza. More info soon.
Nala’s Bagels Part Deux: The bagel and ice cream store opened on Reade in 2024 and has another shop poised to open on Church and Chambers.
And of course there’s still Zucker’s, which moved to a new space on Chambers in 2023; Ess-A-Bagel opened in Fidi this past spring; the BPC stalwart, Pick-A-Bagel; Brooklyn Bread on Greenwich and Murray; Tribeca Bagels on Canal; Black Seed at Hudson Eats in Brookfield Place.
SLICES
Marinara Pizza has taken the two-story building on the corner of West Broadway and Duane that was Sushi of Gari.
Pizza Twist — a franchised Indian fusion pizza shop — has taken the Saluggi’s space at 325 Church between Lispenard and Canal. The company was founded by Harpreet Dahyia in Sacramento in 2014 and is now a franchise that now has more than 40 locations in California and spots in another 18 states.
Jay’s Pizza is coming to Chambers in the former Olive Branch deli spot.
And to round out the list, there’s Lucia on Canal and West Broadway; LTD on Hudson north of Canal; Little Italy (aka Donna Bella) on Chambers and Church; Il Mattone on Beach and Greenwich/Hudson; and Little Italy on Park Place.

Jay’s is also opening on Chambers.
It’s Bagel Mania!
I read this as “crabs” and I was so excited…
We will soon have critical mass to perform a Tribeca-specific taste test of all the local bagel and pizza places. Let’s do it! Friendly only; no schmearing anyone’s reputation. Who wants a slice of the action?
I remember the days when we only had pick a bagel across the highway. Excited for Modern Bagel – they don’t allow notes/changes when ordering online so now I can get exactly what I want
Don’t forget Seppes Pizza Bar that opened on the Goldman walk next to Shake Shack. Pizza is fantastic, great bar and other dishes.
I’ve already put on five pounds.
