Antique Garage Tribeca closed months ago

I missed the exact date, but Antique Garage on Church between Lispenard and Walker has closed permanently. I know it was open this summer but it looks like by November, there was no mention of that location on Instagram. But when I went by yesterday, someone was letting themselves in — they had already taken the lease, they said.

The restaurant, family owned by Utku and Evrim Cinel, still has its Soho location on Mercer and one in Rye. It could not have been an easy couple of years at that spot with the construction next door at 32 Walker and of course covid.

The original location in Soho opened in 2003 in a former mechanic’s shop — hence the name. They opened here in February 2017 in the former Church Street Tavern. It’s a beautiful space…

  1. Any idea what the new tenant will be?

  2. One beautiful thing about the Tribeca Antique Garage was that the lovely staff would let a party sit and nurse a few drinks over conversation for hours, as there were usually tables open. It was one of the best places around to bring clients/visitors from out of town. Lovely and unpressured, and the food and drinks were at a high level. Of course, those open tables were a problem for them, but they never let it affect their hospitality.
