Italian cooking classes coming to Bogardus Mansion

A company called Italia Like Locals that has a catering operation that also offer cooking classes for private events and the public is moving its operation (and its beer & wine license) to 75 Murray — the landmarked Bogardus Mansion between West Broadway and Greenwich. “A party where you happen to make pasta (or pizza) – that’s our vibe,” the website says. “Whether you’re looking for something more elevated or a dancing cooking party, we’ve got you!”

The business is currently called Evento — headquartered at 171 Canal on the 3rd floor and with four other partner locations Downtown. A typical class looks like Filled Pasta Making for $123 per person.

The chef and co-founder is Andrea Belfiore, who was raised in Ancona, Italy, spending Sunday afternoons in the kitchen with his Nonna Anna. (He’s also an accomplished drummer and composer.) His business partner, Sam Akiba, worked in tech business development for 10 years before joining Andrea two years ago.

The space is open for three-hour corporate events during the week, usually just after work, and public events for up to 40 on the weekends — they do about 25 classes per month. (They will have catering spaces on the ground floor and basement, with their offices and storage on the second floor.)

They said a typical class open to the public has about 40 people; corporate classes are more like 25. The total capacity of the space is 130 and the community board’s Licensing Committee restricted them to several buyouts a month.

Hours will be till midnight Sunday to Thursday and 1a on Friday and Saturday. They have already been through the Landmarks Commission.

Back in 2020, there was news of a jazz club returning to that space that never materialized. In 2017 it was Wilbur’s Warehouse; Caviarteria opened there in 2014; and before that it was Silver Lining jazz bar, which opened in 2011.
