Bummer: Frankly Wines now has a “for rent” banner across its facade. (Thanks to G. for the shot.) Just a few weeks ago, it looked like the wine shop, which was opened there originally by Tribecan Christy Frank in 2007, was coming back. But after two unanswered emails to the owner and now this, that seems like the end.
Former Frankly manager Liz Nicholson still has her adorable wine bar — Della’s — two doors up the street.
But the odds and ends direct buy store in that stretch of West Broadway has also closed. Still going in addition to Della’s is Fernandez Shoe Repair and the Corner Deli. (Totally worth revisiting Tribecan Giovanna Rosselli’s photo essay on Segundo Fernandez.)
When the doors first closed in December, the owner said it would be back: “We are still open but are taking some time for restructuring. Our gates will be open again soon.”
Visit Liz at Della’s.
Frankly Wines was a wonderful store and an asset to our neighborhood. I’m glad Liz and Della’s is still here and I wish her much success!
Frankly was one of those rare shops, thoughtfully curated, full of bottles you wouldn’t stumble on elsewhere, with friendly service and prices that didn’t punish curiosity. A real loss for the neighborhood.
