Nosy Neighbor: The end of an era

The neon T in the windows above the Corner Gourmet deli on Murray and West Broadway  has been a perpetual Nosy Neighbor since this TC post from 2011. And I was just about to do an update for C. — and there have been others in the past 15 years — when J. wrote to say the T was no more. (I think I have taken a dozen pictures of it but of course cannot find a single one now.)

It was the wine distributor T. Edward Wines & Spirits, which used the space as an office and for tastings. When it was the subject of the Nosy Neighbor post, a request for a photo was turned down by Tom. “We are a private entity very quietly supplying a niche market of upper tier resellers of wine since 1994. The value of our stock and equipment is somewhat irreplaceable, and such exposure while benefitting the curious few would not serve at all my interest. We prefer to keep our presence private and in a broad context work to support the needs of our community. I appreciate your note. Send us a note soon and we will gladly share a sample or two.”

The company is in business still — it was founded in 1994 — but they moved their headquarters to Noho about three months ago.

And there’s new neon in the window for Zagged, a brand marketing and strategy business. They got the memo with the neon!

  1. Wondering if the slow vacating of the retail, and now an upper floor, is a sign that the building will be redeveloped to residential.
