Update: Washington Market Park lawn + more

A lot of folks were asking about the Washington Market Park lawn back in early spring. The Parks Department started laying down sod on May 19; it takes a couple of months to knit, so now we wait.

Estimates for reopening are mid-July.

Volunteers have been watering the lawn for weeks. Sidenote: half the lawn was donated by a church in Manhasset. (The other half came from a sod farm.)

BATHROOMS + WATER FOUNTAIN
In other park news, the bathrooms are open after a prolonged closure. Pipes froze in early February — during one of those crazy cold snaps — across the city and we were on a long list of repairs for the Parks Department’s plumbers.

There’s also a new fancy water fountain attached to the bathrooms to replace the one that has been broken for years in front of the butterfly garden.

GAZEBO
The Friends of Washington Market Park are hoping to repair the gazebo area pavers that were dug out by kids by setting them in concrete with Friends’ funds. The money’s in place; the Friends await permits for the repair from the city.

EVENTS
For the remaining Thursdays in June, the 18th and 25th at 3:30p, catch Music in the Playground for the youngest kids with Ramblin’ Dan and Music with Corey.

Movie Night is scheduled for July 30. Film TBA.
