Lander and Lee win their districts handily

With 96 percent of scanners reported, former city comptroller Brad Lander upset incumbent Dan Goldman for his Congressional District 10 seat, 65 percent to 34. Goldman was elected in 2022.

And Grace Lee has won the State Senate seat for District 27 recently vacated by Brian Kavanagh, defeating Yuh-Line Niou 62 percent to 37.

But the State Assembly race is a squeaker: with 95.45 percent of scanners reported, CB2 member Jeannine Kiely seems to be the winner with 27.61 percent of the vote. She just nudged past David Siffert, who had 27.24 percent, and Ryder Kessler, with 22.68 percent.

The difference there is just 56 votes, so I will track this throughout the day.

Just over 15,000 votes were cast out of 38,393 eligible Democratic voters in the Assembly district — 39 percent. Not very impressive. Senate District 27 has 145,453 total Democratic voters; Congressional District 10 has 351,015. See the tallies below.

The Goldman/Lander race was closely watched here in the city and beyond. Lander was one of three congressional candidates backed by Mayor Mamdani; they all won.

Lee is the current state assemblymember for District 65, representing the Lower East Side, Chinatown, SoHo, NoHo, Little Italy and the Financial District. She co-founded Children First, the parent-led coalition that successfully pushed for the safe cleanup of the mercury-contaminated brownfield site that is 250 Water.

Kiely was tapped by outgoing assemblymember Deborah Glick. She co-founded Literacy Academy Collective, which opened the first two district public schools for students with dyslexia in the city.

  1. The 66th assembly district seems to be more conservative among June voters than the 10th NY congressional district.
