Chase is taking the former Joe & The Juice space — and maybe also the Gee Whiz space? — on Greenwich between Chambers and Warren. Thanks to N. for the eyeball and photo, and to M. for the construction shots.
I had to use Google: it seems they have branches on Church and Worth, and Broadway and Murray.
Joe & The Juice, the Danish coffee chain that opened here in 2018, just closed on July 31, but they told me in an email: “We’re relocating to nearby location. Address TBA.” Hopefully we will hear soonish, since I know there are fans out there.
I cannot keep track of the ebb and flow of bank branches. It seems like they were dying rapidly, but then we have Wells Fargo take over the prominent corner at Chambers and West Broadway. Here’s something of an analysis from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, which says that while banks were closing branches steadily over the past 15 years, they have had a recent resurgence.

Bank branch counts tend to wax and wane with housing transaction activity and mortgage volume. Maybe they are anticipating an interest rate drop?
Joe and the Juice has taken over the large
space on Church that was vacated by Pret.
The manager at Pret told me this before
they closed. We’ll see.
Does this mean the branch down the road at Greenwich and Murray is closing?
This has nothing to do with the future expectation around interest rates. And yes it would mean the branch at Greenwich and Murray would close. I also expect it would include both the Gee Whiz space and Joe & the Juice, as that footprint makes more sense for a bank branch (corner and sf).
Yes, re Gee Whiz space. Before I saw the big sign in the Joe’s window, I saw building permits that mentioned Chase by name in the Gee Whiz window. Neither space alone would seem big enough for them and given the very close proximity to the current branch, I’d imagine that’s closing when this one is ready. I wonder if Bank of NY is trying to reclaim their lobby real estate for their own use.
