Chambers Street Wines is opening a wine bar on… Chambers

The owners of Chambers Street Wines, which has been in one location or another on Chambers since 2001, are opening a casual wine bar across the street at 76 Chambers, the former Blue Spoon Coffee space. (Blue Spoon closed in March.)

The spot is tiny — 500 square feet — and will have a bar, two tables and 20 seats. No kitchen — and they are only applying for a beer & wine license. But it should be great. Plus the name is Freddy’s (though the applicant name was Au Passage), which works for me. Hours will be 3p to 11p.

Chambers Street Wines moved across the street to 79 Chambers in May, so the location works — even if it will be a game of frogger at times. They also own a part of Chambers the restaurant, just down the block on the south side.

The goal is to open early next year — not much work is required on the space other than to build the bar — but the SLA is really backlogged so they are offering temporary beer and wine licenses, but even those take three months. They took the lease for Nov. 1 and are hoping it doesn’t take longer than five months to get running.
