The back story: A trio of Hearst magazines partnered with 250 West for Designer Visions, showhouses that were supposed to be kicked off with a big party on Oct. 30. Hurricane Sandy intervened, and my plan to go to the party and scope out the public spaces as well as the showhouses fell by the wayside. I prefer real people’s homes over showhouses, but those of you who just want decorating inspiration in a Tribeca setting will be in heaven. (The first one is here.)
This one, for Veranda magazine, is by Anthony Todd. According to the magazine, the imaginary clients are “a family of philanthropic cosmopolitans: a dad who’s a brand strategist in digital media but also passionate about the conservation of elephants and other endangered wildlife in Africa; a mom who secures financing for a wide range of clients, including fashion designers and organic farmers, and has a soft spot for the women and children of Turkey;”—the men are on their own—”and a son who, when home from boarding school in New England, is just as likely to tear up the skate park as he is to pour over a dog-eared copy of On the Road.”

Is this open to the public? I pulled up the website and it’s unclear.
@paul: Fair question. I stopped thinking of it as an actual event (vs. an online peeping opportunity) when the party was canceled. I’d assume not, because I think the event was canceled in part because 250 West is right on the river. But I’ll email the PR rep just in case….
@Paul: The word is that Hearst had planned to make them public, but it’s unclear whether that’s still the case. If I hear anything, I’ll be sure to pass it along….
@Paul: Heard back from Hearst PR. “We will be open to the public on certain Saturdays, with proceeds going to charity. The entire schedule is still TBD though.” It won’t be before January.
