Elevator pitch?
We launched PregPrep to help all women who are ready to get pregnant. It’s a conception program that includes three natural, doctor-formulated products that work together to optimize a woman’s chances of getting pregnant. It’s safe, natural, and endorsed by leading OB/GYNs.

My partner (and sister-in-law), who is an interventional cardiologist, conceived the idea for PregPrep from her own personal experience trying to get pregnant with her first child. In her mid-thirties at that time and eager to start a family, Lara grew impatient trying to conceive with little value provided by products and information accessible over-the-counter. While researching ways to get pregnant naturally and quickly, she had her “aha” moment.

Lara read about mucolytics, compounds commonly found in cold and cough medicines to thin out mucus in the lungs. Her research suggested that mucolytics might also help thin out cervical mucus, allowing sperm to travel more easily to the egg. She tried her theory on herself and was pregnant within a month. To her surprise, and on further investigation, Lara discovered that OB/GYNs and fertility specialists often recommend mucolytics as a conception aid.

So Lara and I decided to team up (I have a marketing background) and create PregPrep, a company dedicated to helping women get pregnant. We did years of research and consulted with our OB/GYN before developing a proactive program for women. PregPrep’s kit includes FertilPrep, a mucolytic derived from a naturally occurring amino acid that is also a potent antioxidant (unlike the compounds used in cough syrups). FertilPrep thins the cervical mucus allowing the sperm to swim more easily to the egg. It also includes VitaMelts, a streamlined prenatal vitamin with just the essentials a woman needs preconception, and Essential Balance Oil, a select blend of aromatherapeutic oils to calm the mind, harmonize the body, and support the reproductive system.

When was it founded?
PregPrep was founded in 2011 and we brought the program to market in late 2013.

Why the name “PregPrep”?
My husband actually came up with the name! It’s short for “pregnancy preparation”—we liked how the double Ps roll off your tongue—and our logo resembles a pregnant belly.

Who else was involved?
We are a team of four female family members with nine children among us. Molly, our cousin, is the newest PregPrep mama with a two-month-old!

How big is PregPrep now?
After piloting the product for the past year—in the area, it’s available at Kings Pharmacy, Thompson Chemists, Avignone, and Village Apothecary—and receiving dozens of amazing testimonials from ecstatic PregPrep mamas, we’re about to launch into 300 additional retail channels this spring. We’re also working on new products for women who are already pregnant.

Where is it headquartered?
Right here in Tribeca.

How and where you do see it growing?
We envision a huge number of brand extensions under the PregPrep umbrella. Our goal is to have natural, safe products to help women as they journey from conception to pregnancy and post partum.

Does living in the area inspire the company in any way?
Living in a small community like Tribeca is inspiring every day. The families that live here are smart, savvy, and well-informed. It is incredible to live somewhere that feels like a small town but has the energy and immediacy of New York City.

Any company hangouts around here?
We’re obsessed with The Greek. The food is super fresh and flavorful and it’s always warm and friendly. Kaffe 1668 , Estancia 460, and Fika are our other neighborhood haunts.
