My point is twofold. NYC should be downsizing the budget, not exploding it, to adjust to the lower enrollment. The school budget is not supposed to be a jobs program for the teachers union and school administrators. Secondly, there is no reason NYC should be paying for these private groups to provide after school activities, when virtually every other school district in the country provides these services through the schools with existing personnel. Why should NYC pay twice for basic services compared to everyone else? I am so sorry to learn about this loss! I used to work near the pharmacy back in 2015 and I would spend a lot of time walking around the area, especially as a student in BMCC. I purchased a perfume at the tribeca pharmacy once, and they were kind enough to allow me to buy the tester since it was the last bottle in stock. That scent has stayed with me for years and I would occasionally go back to see if it was being sold, but they never had it in stock again. For years since then I've been meaning to return there to speak to the owners and ask if they could share the inventory list of perfumes from around that time so I could find that perfume again. Learning that the location is permanently closed and that the owner has passed is so heartbreaking! Regarding the middle school programs that will be run by Imogen, the objections are because it has zero experience running middle school programs or programs in schools as large as Baruch or Wagner. And what's your point exactly? That it's expensive to operate schools because there's lower enrollment? That's basic mathematics - economies of scale. But the schools are never going to attract more students without rich programming. I can say the entire MS104 community is crushed. I am trying to be optimistic but Imogen has no experience with middle school. In most of the country, outside groups are not providing after school programs, it is provided by the local school systems as part of the basic services they provide to their community.
