  • It was the southwest corner (by Goldman Sachs). — Mike Greve on In the News: Woman struck by car on Murray

  • This is a complete horror. I view this intersection as one of the most dangerous in our neighborhood due to the timing of different turn lights and the visibility with 111 Murray construction site and the cars and high number of taxis turning right from the southbound lane of West Street at high rates of speed on to Murray St. I once chased down a taxi on foot that clipped this NW corner when I was standing on the curb with my wife and baby stroller. He apologized and said he didn’t see us! Please fellow neighbors, always be vigilant at this intersection. Does anyone know which corner of the intersection this accident occurred on? — Jamie Propp on In the News: Woman struck by car on Murray

  • Good Morning Pam, this used to be on the wall of the Warren Street and West Broadway parking lot but it has since been painted over. I took a photo of this back in June 2018 because I love some of the graffiti out there in Tribeca and NYC. I will send a photo to you when it appeared with the hand on the right of the words "Sorry Mom" back then and today as the hand to the right is still on the wall with a black car blocking it. There is new graffiti covering it over now if you take a look. I think the photo you have may be an old shot of it? with regards, Sonia Stock — Sonia F. Stock on Where in Tribeca? • They definitely use the one in front of my building, but I see your point. Of course, if they don't use them, they can take them off the street. We could always use less "furniture" on the sidewalks. — Pam Frederick on Eyesore of the Week: Mailboxes of Tribeca

  • I don’t think it’s an accident that the two you show in “better” condition are actual mailboxes (meant for non-postal-employees to send letters) and the vandalized ones are all some sort of official-use-only storage. Are we sure USPS actively uses all the green ones? — mg on Eyesore of the Week: Mailboxes of Tribeca

  • Agreed about USPS...I even like the old Canal Street Post Office. And I also marvel at this massive system that can get a letter from here to there so quickly and so cheaply. It's all "old-school", but (most of the time) it works. (I didn't know that USPS doesn't get tax dollars; I assumed it was subsidized that way). — Marcus on Eyesore of the Week: Mailboxes of Tribeca

  • I work at the BOE and I hope BMCC steps up as an early voting site. We are sorely in need of additional sites downtown. Space must be fully accessible and large enough to handle several voting machines over many hours over nine days. Any one who can recommend a possible site should call the poll site dept at 213 886 2100. — Jean Grillo on In the News: BMCC is one of few early voting sites

  • So NIMBYs want to stop all forms of gentrification, which means, keep my 'hood crapy so I can afford to still live here, but mailboxes with 'character' are bad? please..... — cplusc on Eyesore of the Week: Mailboxes of Tribeca

  • Wow. The Canal Street post office; Margaret Chin; and the 1st Police Precinct, all on the same comments page. It's like a do-nothing trifecta! — James on Eyesore of the Week: Mailboxes of Tribeca

  • I thought I had read something about the 1st Precinct having some sort of graffiti clean up program going on --- and yet there's more graffiti on my neighboring streets than ever before. (as you mentioned Reade St/Greenwich as well as Staple Street has really gone down hill with the more graffiti/trash/booze bottles and kids getting high. — Samantha on Eyesore of the Week: Mailboxes of Tribeca

  • Would also be great if Councilwoman Chin would get the ACE program back in Tribeca. The sidewalks around Reade Street/Greenwich and the gutters are filled with bottles and trash. https://www.acenewyork.org/stay-informed/ace-in-the-news/ — john on Eyesore of the Week: Mailboxes of Tribeca

  • Can we have a pop-up park in that empty lot in the meantime? ITs bad enough that we lose half a street and one side of sidewalk, but why not plant something, install benches, anything but years (how many?) of urban decay and misery. — eve shebang on In the News: Our own collusion, Tribeca real estate style

  • There’s no excuse for rude crews, ever. But without those tax breaks we’d lose a lot of production, and jobs. NYC is very expensive to shoot in, which is why so many movies set in New York are shot in Toronto or North Carolina. Every producer I know has struggled with these costs, and while nearly everyone telling a New York story would prefer to shoot here, the numbers often drive them away. The tax breaks make a big difference. That’s no excuse for the arrogance and sense of entitlement of some crews. Shame on the line producers, production managers and producers for allowing this. — A Wade on Seen & Heard: The Odeon in the 1930s

  • they have no respect.....every single day they come through tribeca and make a mess, some people are rude and they leave there damn location managers papers all over the polls. Take them down after the shoot. I walked by odeon yesterday with my dogs and couldnt go anywhere. the mayor sucks by letting them do this and there should be someone from city on every shoot to monitor these inconsiderate bastards taking over our hood. — adam glassman on Seen & Heard: The Odeon in the 1930s

  • What about the people who depend on these positions to help pay for school, feed their baby, pay for a grandmother’s mediciation? If this “ideal world” as many readers stated occurs, how many people would this put out of work? Curious... — Douglas M on Amazon Go opens in Brookfield mall

  • Thomas Street should be off limits to film crews - it’s a one lane street. They took over the sidewalk and all the parking on Thomas between west bway & church. They had the audacity to try and stop people from getting to their apartments. I am sick to death of film shoots. To add insult to injury, my tax dollars pay for the film industry subsidies, as if those companies need a tax break... — Jvz on Seen & Heard: The Odeon in the 1930s
