So far, I have not seen any posters about 5 Boro Bike Tour. No information of who to contact if their music is too loud. Those were part of the agreements they had with CB1 in 2019 after years of complaints. Hopefully, they will be better neighbors this year. Time will tell. — S on Seen & Heard: Five Boro Bike Tour on Sunday
This is wonderful news to read. I worked for the organization for a few years leading up to acquiring that essential kickstarting naming gift from Mr. Perelman. Sadly, all the original staff who worked so hard to get things moving back then have moved on to other projects, but it should always be acknowledged how much Maggie Boepple and David Langford contributed to nurturing this project in its early days, as well as Lucy Sexton, Jenny Gersten, and David Lan. — PB on The Perelman PAC has topped out and interior construction has begun
You can look at the data yourself for the percentage if you think mine is off; it is of course changing. The percentage is of eligible residents, which is ages 12 and over. — Tribeca Citizen on The latest covid tallies
I thought I had read earlier in the summer that the vaccination rate was over 90% for Tribeca/BPC....hard to understand these numbers if they are not specifying the age range. — urban cowgirl on The latest covid tallies
Glad you enjoyed our event last night! You can find the band's facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/NoneTheWiser1/ Or, send us an email and we'll put you in touch: info@duanepark.org See you for our next one: Sept 16th at 6:30pm — Friends of Duane Park on Seen & Heard: Tribeca rocks Duane Park
We attended the Duane Park event tonight and thoroughly enjoyed the band “None the Wiser.” What a talented group of musicians! Their Tom Petty covers, in particular, were superb. I could not find a website for the band, Would the Friends of Duane Park be willing to let us know how to get on the band’s email list? Thank you. — SW on Seen & Heard: Tribeca rocks Duane Park

There used to be 3 branches in walking distance downtown (City Hall area), including a very large branch on Broadway by Wall Street. Then they moved across the street to a smaller branch, then I think moved to the next block. There used to be one across from City Hall Park (the worst branch!). You could get there at 8:30 when they open, and still wait 15 minutes for a teller. My mother got a letter from them about the change but in Queens there is no Citizen Bank. She's closing her accounts. — Sherri Rosen on In the News: Art in General will close here after 34 years
I remember after 9/11, Tribeca was a ghost town because nobody was going down there and businesses closed, but thanks to new restaurants, stores, residential buildings that were built, day care places and the Tribeca Film Festival, Tribeca became a great neighborhood again. That is until the landlords got greedy and businesses went out - AGAIN! — Sherri Rosen on A Uno will move after 20 years on Duane
Every bank on Canal Street has safe deposit boxes. — James on In the News: Art in General will close here after 34 years
I have so many fond memories of the Paris Cafe from the 80’s through the 90’s when Pat MacMenamin and family ran the place. Working overnight about a mile away, we would end up at the Paris for midnight liquid lunches and 3-4 am forays after work. One of my funniest memories were of the residential tenants that moved in and out of the apartments above the Paris. They would see the apartment in the daytime and move in and be totally shocked with the floodlights noise and motion beginning to flow outside their windows at 1 am till 8 am. Not to mention the fishy smells. Good by Paris. — Mike Brody on After 147 years at the Seaport, The Paris Café is closing for good
Perelman programmers, if you're listening: high-quality, New Victory-level family programming would make a killing here. — Kathleen on The Perelman PAC has topped out and interior construction has begun
Re safe deposit boxes -- the Chase on Broadway and Murray has them (in the basement), though I have no idea if any are available. — N on In the News: Art in General will close here after 34 years
Faded commercial district? I'd say faded industrial district -- in the late 1980s! We moved in in 1993 and co-op conversions were well underway in the southern part of the neighborhood (N. Moore and south), and, if my memory is correct, the northern end really took off a couple of years after 9/11. In other news, the street seating patio for Reade Street Pub was dismantled on Tuesday, leaving a big mess of sand (from street de-icing over the winter is my best guess) and mud on the street. after they removed the floor decking. I was walking on Chambers yesterday and saw that construction was well underway something called Daily Goods at #86. From the signage it seems to be a branch of the juice+ place that's on John Street and in Chelsea Market. The retail on that side of that block got hit really hard by Covid so it cheered me up even though it's not the type of place I'd ordinarily frequent. — N on In the News: Truffles apartments for sale, eventually
Our building just redid our Jay St. sidewalk to seal the cracks and to prevent rats from getting into our building. Our super only puts the garbage bags out in the morning of the pick-up days. Please report garbage on the streets at other times by calling 311. — JS Miller on Seen & Heard: Rats!
I am very distressed about the HSBC news. I have been banking there for longer than I can remember. I hope all of the wonderful tellers who have been so helpful and friendly will keep their jobs. I will probably be moving to another bank. There is also the issue of the safe deposit boxes. HSBC in Tribeca is one of the few banks that has them. — JS Miller on In the News: Art in General will close here after 34 years
Are children under age 12 included in the number of "residents"? That could skew the percentages. I don't know the numbers but there seem to be a lot of kids in BPC and those are overall small zip codes! — Lisa on The latest covid tallies
Re HSBC: after two visits about a month apart, neither the VP/senior bank mgr or the assistant VP had answers to a number of my questions, including what happens to direct deposits into and bills automatically paid out of our current HSBC checking accounts (paychecks, pensions, social security, etc). You can go in and find out if your account is “tagged” to transfer over to Citizens. And both times I was told that Citizens is going to retain the physical branch space at Reade Street. The best they could offer as far as my many questions was that once all the official regulations are dealt with (they think 1st quarter 2022), a 90 day notice will be sent to all customers, and all will be revealed…supposedly. In the past, when Crossland Savings became something else and then HSBC took over the accounts, I do remember the checking accounts being transferred from one to the other by the banks themselves.. Hopefully this transition will happen seamlessly. Fingers crossed. — Roe on In the News: Art in General will close here after 34 years
Right! Will probably end up just being "The Cube". It can't be "The Box" since there's already a venue in NYC with that name. — Marcus on The Perelman PAC has topped out and interior construction has begun
I love it. Looking forward to shows and events here. Agreed that they should bring established talents, but I also hope they will use this venue as a place to introduce and showcase new and unknown talent. — Marcus on The Perelman PAC has topped out and interior construction has begun
I think it has more to do with the road construction. I walked by Worth street last night and rats were scurrying all around the open pits. — Reademan on Seen & Heard: Rats!
Could the proliferation of rats have anything to do with bits of edibles left over from the proliferation of dining areas in the streets? — George Bacon on Seen & Heard: Rats!
