On the Agendas…

The agendas for Community Board 1’s February meetings have been added to the calendar, and a few items stood out amid the same old shtuff. (If any are important to you, you should always check online to make sure the agenda hasn’t changed before you set out for the meeting.) I won’t be able to attend the ones on Feb. 8, 9, or 14, so if you’ve ever been curious and would like to attend a meeting and take notes, get in touch: tribecacitizen@gmail.com.

The italics are all me. The rest is CB1 agenda.

UPDATE: BPC BALLFIELDS MEETING HAS BEEN POSTPONED TILL FEB. 10
Battery Park City Ballfields and Community Center Task Force (Feb. 1)

• Battery Park City ice rink Request for Proposal – Discussion. Could it be that we’ll have a rink again next winter?

Battery Park City Committee (Feb. 1)
• North End Avenue, application for a substantial alteration to a liquor license for GS Site 25 Hotel LLC – Resolution. Rooftop lounge, perhaps?
• 220 Vesey Street a.k.a. 2 World Financial Center, application for restaurant liquor license for Ed’s Lobster Bar WFC, LLC d/b/a Caravelli’s – Resolution. So the rumors were true: Ed’s Lobster Bar is upgrading from last summer’s cart to a full-on restaurant, presumably in the Donald Sacks space, as was also rumored.
• Presentation on Postal Plaza, Inc. by Albert Shklyar, Director of Community Relations. I don’t normally attend the BPC committee meetings. Anyone know what this is about?
2 North End Avenue, application for Hip at Murray Street LLC d/b/a Harry’s Italian – Resolution. So Harry’s Italian of Gold Street is opening another location…. 2 North End is a mysterious address. Could P.J. Clarke’s be on the ropes? Or subdividing? UPDATE 2/1: See comment.

Youth and Education Committee (Feb. 8)
• Introduction to the Blue School by Blakely Braniff. A.k.a. the Blue Man Group School.

Combined Tribeca Committee and Arts and Entertainment Task Force (Feb. 9)
• Bill Barrett Sculpture Proposal for Finn Square – Resolution. Finn Square is the triangle formed where Varick runs into W. Broadway; Barrett, according to his website, lives on Worth. In March of 1999, CB1 approved the “temporary installation of ‘Abstract Memories’ by Bill Barrett, at the south end of Finn Square, between Varick and West Broadway for a period of 5 years.” In 2003, this was on the agenda: “Temporary siting of a sculpture by Bill Barrett on Finn Square for a 6 month period.” The image above is captioned “Abstract Memories,” but no clue if it’s the Bill Barrett sculpture in question.
•  Presentation on Hazelden Foundation plan to open a residential facility at 283 West Broadway by Ann Bray, Hazelden Foundation. Postponed from last month; promises to be interesting….
• 59 Reade Street, application for tavern-restaurant liquor license for Alex Tortolani or entity to be formed d/b/a TBD – Resolution. Maybe this time this won’t get postponed.
• 65 West Broadway, application for liquor license for Establishment to be Determined – Resolution. Bangal Curry is changing hands?

Battery Park City Ballfields and Community Center Task Force (Feb. 10)
• Battery Park City ice rink Request for Proposal – Discussion. Could it be that we’ll have a rink again next winter?

WTC Redevelopment Committee (Feb. 14)
• Plans for Opening of National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center; update by Joe Daniels, President/CEO, National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center; update on Transportation Planning by Luis Sanchez, Lower Manhattan Commissioner, Department of Transportation Maybe they’ve solved the problem of what to do with thousands of buses.

  1. in the Battery Park City Committee (Feb. 1) notes above, the Murray Street LLC d/b/a Harry’s Italian item maybe a renewal for a kiosk outside of the winter garden on the patio in the summer. They were one of the three vendors last year along with Quality Burger and Ed’s.

  2. @TV: Thanks! Forgot about that. I updated the text to point folks toward your comment

  3. forgot to mention, love your blog, read it every day!
