More fancy than casual

A sister to the original Weather Up in Prospect Heights, Weather Up Tribeca opened in late 2010, but it looks as if it’s been around for years, possibly decades. Subway tiles line the ceiling (forming one long vault—if that’s the right word—the length of the room); the bar is copper (or at least copper-colored?); the water pitchers are crystal (or at least cut glass); the stools are presumably vintage, and bolted to the bar. The space is glamorously—and seductively—lit; the booths may be the best third-date spot below Houston. The bar is very much part of the current wave of cocktail-obsessed culture; its ice machine warranted an article in the New York Times. Food is available, and rather good, but more for snacking than sustenance. If there’s a whiff of preciousness in the air—your bill will be handwritten and possibly delivered in a small envelope—the staff is friendly. Note: Weather Up Tribeca has no sign.
