Seen & Heard: Something Is Coming to the Matsugen Space

••• A first peek at the cladding of 137 Franklin. The photo is a bit dark—the material is redder—but you get the idea.

••• I hear that something is coming to the Matsugen space at 66 Leonard. If you know more, I’m at tribecacitizen@gmail.com.

••• Construction appears to be starting on 11 N. Moore, the big new building on Varick between Beach and N. Moore. There’s a rendering here.

••• I forgot to note in this month’s Unofficial Minutes of the CB1 Tribeca Committee that a liquor license application for Benares showed up on the agenda at the last minute, but was evidently held over till next month. So we can assume that Benares of Midtown West is indeed opening on Murray Street.

••• Superstar Gym—coming to Truffles Tribeca—will open in four weeks. “It’s an European upscale gym with latest Italian equipment,” says Superstar’s Joe DiAngelo. “Very innovative. It’s run by U.S. athletes and best personal trainers with amazing results and body makeovers.” Here’s a pic he sent of one of the pieces of equipment, which he says will be like sitting in a Ferrari.

••• EMC (Emergency Medical Care) is opening a second outpost, at 42nd Street and Eleventh Ave.

••• From Barnes & Noble: “Tomorrow’s book signing with R Kelly has been cancelled due to health reasons.”

••• Thanks to a reader’s suggestion, I’m now making the photos I take larger—most used to be only as wide as this column, but now they should be worth enlargable by clicking on them (which isn’t to say that all of them are worth enlarging).

••• I was walking along Franklin today when I saw a flyer for an Magen H sale in the Sofia brothers building at 139 Franklin. I didn’t know what Magen H is (20th-century furniture with some objets, it turns out), but I couldn’t resist the urge to go inside the building. If you like an old Tribeca building, I highly recommend it.
