From Community Board 1…. My comments are indented on the line below.

Please note that this is a preliminary list. Be sure to check the agenda page on our website for any changes to agendas prior to the meeting dates. ID is required to enter the Municipal Building (1 Centre St.)

If you are concerned about the impact of this new entertainment venue or wish to learn more about what is planned, you are urged to attend.” Below: rendering of the stage.

Community Board 1 recuses itself from the street fairs that benefit itself—meaning no one at the community level acts as a check on them.

Location: Community Board 1 – Conference Room, 1 Centre Street, Room 2202A-North
1) NYC Small Business Services Risk Assessment and Grant Program – Presentation by Lara Birnback, Senior Program Manager, NYC SBS
2) 45 Broad Street, application 180063 ZSM for Special Permit for FAR bonus in relation to transportation improvements – Resolution
3) 14 White Street, Board of Standards and Appeals application 2017-298-BZ for Zoning Resolution variances to allow construction of a seven-story plus penthouse mixed commercial and residential building – Resolution

My report from when the design was unveiled at CB1 (rendering above): “The building will be within the height limit of 85 feet allowed as of right, but it needs a variance from the city to increase the floor area ratio (FAR), so that it can be seven floors rather than six. The Board of Standards and Appeals and the City Planning Commission wait for the Landmarks Preservation Commission to approve a design before weighing the request for a variance. The developer says that it warrants the variance because the site is so complex, thanks to the subway.” (The Landmarks Preservation Commission gushed over the design.)

4) Privately Owned Public Spaces (POPS) Compliance – Discussion with Stella Kim, Program Manager, Privately Owned Public Spaces (Invited)

Before we launch a flash mob at 101 Barclay, where the developer got concessions from the city in exchange for public access that it hasn’t provided in over 15 years, let’s hear what the city has to say.

Laight Street, Beach Street and St. Johns Lane – Resolution

The punctuation in that last part makes it unclear what IMG Fashion and Spring Studios are asking for. Net, I think this is great for local businesses, but Spring’s unwillingness to play by the rules it agreed to does make one wonder what it’ll try to pull during the largest event at the venue so far.

2) The following notices have been received for renewal, upgrade, corporate change, minor alteration or transfer of wine and beer or liquor licenses, renewal of sidewalk cafe permits and recurring street closure permits:

  1. It looks like IMG is planning to move their show venue from Lincoln Center to Spring Studios. That’s a pretty big deal.

    • I’m actually behind the times… the left Lincoln Center as their bug a couple years ago.

      • From the Post in September: “For the past two years, IMG has hosted its shows at Clarkson Square in West SoHo. The agency just inked a deal with another venue, Spring Studios, in Tribeca, for shows in February featuring designers’ spring lines. But IMG declined to disclose the terms of its deal with the venue and whether it extends beyond 2019, when Hudson Yards is expected to be completed. Separately, the Council of Fashion Designers of America has been working with a Hudson Yards non-profit called The Shed, which will host cultural events and will be equipped with four fashion runways.” https://nypost.com/2017/09/12/hudson-yards-is-in-talks-to-host-new-york-fashion-week/
