Pry that mouse out of your hand! And get outside for a stroll and some old fashioned shopping. In this guide: men’s togs from some truly unique local shops.
AZTECH MOUNTAIN
42 Hudson at Duane
Tribeca born and owned designer shop with truly unique ski togs for men and women made just for the brand. You won’t find anything else like it.
••• Owner and Tribecan Anthony Rutgers models the cashmere hoodie — “it’s heaven” — which is actually two pieces of cashmere bonded together with silk in the middle. Made in Italy. There are matching sweats. $2800
••• The plaid insulated hoodie is lined with fleece developed by NASA. Really. $495
THE ARMOURY
168 Duane | Hudson & Greenwich
These shop guys make serious clothing fun.
••• The lined tweed vest with corduroy patch pockets (comes in two colors) has a cigar pocket on the inside. Perfect for the Tweedy Daddy. $750
••• The Armoury exclusive tote is custom made by Frank Clegg, one of the last family owned leatherworks. The Armoury hand-picks the fabrics. $900
NILI LOTAN FOR MEN
183 Duane | Greenwich & Staple
Tribecan Nili Lotan launched a men’s line — an homage to her husband, the Israeli singer-songwriter David Broza — and opened a store across the street from her longtime Tribeca flagship. They serve coffee.
••• With the jeans, it’s a vibe: the Somac cashmere cardigan. $1595
••• The suede bomber jacket will work all winter, since it doesn’t rain or get cold any more. $2700
MAHARISHI
38 Lispenard | Church & Broadway
The British men’s wear line blends Eastern and Western silhouettes and graphic influences with a military bent. And the shopkeepers here are just the best.
••• A Zippo made just for the brand. $140
••• There are a lot of bucket hats out there, but this was our favorite to date. All wool, in three colors. $95
THE CITY STORE
1 Centre Street at Chambers
For all things NYC, run by the city.
••• Tribecan Josh Bach’s CIVITAS tie is a map of downtown, in case you get lost on your way home. (He has other towns on his website.) $65.
••• Cuff links made from the seats at the old Yankee Stadium — and they include the seat number. $190
TODD SNYDER AT THE LIQUOR STORE
2 White @ West Broadway
The “lifestyle brand” designer created the J. Crew store at the Liquor Store, and reclaimed the local landmark for his own line in 2019.
••• The wool trapper hat from Japan is not too Williamsburg. $135
••• Snyder does great collabs, and this one is with Woolrich: the plaid shirt, but in cashmere. $998
JAMES PERSE
257 Church at Franklin
The home for luxe staples always has something comfy for men.
••• The sherpa lined denim shirt jacket works for any age. $495
••• A twist on the down vest: built-in sleeves. $695.
LA GARCONNE
465 Greenwich at Vestry
There are a few new items for me at the boutique, and we went for the Commes Des Garcons insulated scarves — there are a few colors — with a phone holder. $188-245
