THE RENOVATION OF 50 HUDSON
The Times has a deep dive on the recently completed glass brick addition to 50 Hudson on Duane Park, through an interview with Eric Schlagman, who bought the building 20 years ago. He and his partner spent the past three years restoring it and implementing Tribecan Thierry Despont’s design. “When Thierry saw the glass, he said, in his French accent, ‘This is disgustingly beautiful,’” according to Mr. Schlagman.
METROLOFT ACQUIRES ANOTHER FIDI BUILDING
Gothamist reports that MetroLoft and Quantum Pacific Group have acquired 1 Whitehall Street, a 23-story tower from the early ’60s on the corner of Stone Street across from the Museum of the American Indian and Bowling Green. Cool location. More about MetroLoft here.
TRIBECA FESTIVAL PLACE, BRIEFLY
The Trib reports that the city Department of Transportation removed a regulation sized and colored street sign labeling the corner of Greenwich and Tribeca Festival Place. The Trib made a call to the DOT on a Wednesday to ask about the sign and by Friday it was gone. Community Board 1 has strict house rules for street “co-namings.” See those here.
LIVELY-REYNOLDS PHOTO SHOOT ON COLLISTER
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds had a cute two-person photo shoot on Collister Street recently — this from People. “Father of all of my favorite children,” she wrote in her IG caption.
The 50 Hudson addition is a gift to the neighborhood. I wouldn’t have thought I’d ever say that. But the changing appearance of the glass bricks throughout the day, and throughout different daytime and evening light, is always a surprise.
