New Kid on the Block: David Weeks Studio

David Weeks Studio opened in November—I couldn’t photograph it then because of exclusivity issues (shelter mags are ruthless about that crap)—so it’s not exactly new. But waiting turned out to be OK, because now the 2,500-square-foot shop has more than David Weeks Studio’s furniture, rugs, lighting and objets. You’ll find art by Todd St. John, bone china by Max LambRodger Stevens wire vessels and jewelry, leather iPad cases by Defy Mfg. Co., and rectangular sandals by Silla (which have yoga-mat material in the sole).

“We’re still working on a plan for the retail side of things,” says Weeks. “I think of it as a laboratory, with collaborations and installations—specialized moments like at an art gallery, but in that gray area between art and design. Like those bigger pieces that Moss used to have.”

This is Weeks’s first store—his workshop is in Brooklyn—so it’s not just a chance to curate from other makers. It’s also an opportunity to have all of his own products in one place—David Weeks World, if you will, open for your shopping pleasure.

P.S. Kids are totally allowed to come and test out the giant Cubebot that’s pictured directly below.

David Weeks Studio is at 38 Walker (between Church and Broadway), 212-966-3433; davidweeksstudio.com.
