Well the NEW owner is an OWNER and not a renter, so they rightfully, have the final say, Diane. — Jim Smithers on Another one bites the dust: Gristedes to close in BPC

This page used to be cool and have some fun debates, now many are politically backed, or with a snarky twinge and end up with crappy comments like this thread. Can we bring back the old owner please. Make Tribeca Citizen Great Again — Jimmy on Another one bites the dust: Gristedes to close in BPC
Thank god the BIG monstrosity is scrapped. That crap design would have ruined the skyline and the Trade Center overall. I’m not crazy on the diamonds design either...hopefully third times a charm with this design. This is the successor to the South Tower. It deserves to be iconic. — Anthony on In the News: Revamped design for Two World Trade
Oh my goodness! Tear down the towers? Wow you people are over dramatic aren't you? I do not recognize a lot of the people living in TriBeCa anymore. I suggest you study up on the Brutalism style of architecture ...it might add some perspective. The buildings are spacious, and the views are lovely. Loads of very lovely, hard working people live in these towers. Take a deep breath. — TG on Another one bites the dust: Gristedes to close in BPC
OUCH! — TG on Another one bites the dust: Gristedes to close in BPC
Mr. Silverstein is an amazing developer, and has put up numerous buildings around the City, especially downtown. But I do not feel any inspiration from any of his buildings. To me they are all bland boxes. Safe. — G on In the News: Revamped design for Two World Trade
Excellent point by James. Thank you. — G on In the News: ARC still searching for a new home
Landmarks does something reasonable, and people are up in arms. Wonderful. Here is what LPC issued with regards to the shutters: "With regard to this proposal, the Commission found that the fire shutters that were removed were located within a very narrow hemmed-in courtyard, and were not visible from any public [thoroughfares] or from other buildings or rear yards within the block; that the removal of fire shutters has allowed for the installation of necessary HVAC ducts required for fresh-air intake, in support of the adaptive reuse of the building for residential use; and that the absence of fire shutters at this specific location does not detract from the special architectural and historic character of the Tribeca East Historic District. Based on these findings, the Commission determined the work to be appropriate to the building and the historic district and voted to approve the application. Therefore, Warning Letter 20-0072 is hereby rescinded. "PLEASE NOTE: This permit is being issued in conjunction with Certificate of No Effect 20-05921 (LPC 2005921) for the installation of HVAC equipment at the rear facade and roof." — James on In the News: ARC still searching for a new home
I heard that shinola building is under contract. Is this post updated info? The real estate website says under contract. On the plastic bags. It would be nice if merchants were allowed to offer biodegradable bags as an option since they are convenient for many things and can be reused for other purposes — joe on Seen & Heard: Mr. Dips coming to Pier 17

Great pic! Does anyone know why the Radio Shack sign is still up on this very same corner ? It’s on Broadway side directly behind the clock in photo. — Tim Blaquiere on Where in Tribeca?

Produce less trash and buy biodegradable bags. Pretty simple. — T on Seen & Heard: Mr. Dips coming to Pier 17
Is this for real?! Why doesn’t the rest of the neighborhood show the same kind of outrage about IP housing sex offenders and ex-cons to counter the feigned outrage constantly on display from the IP tenant’s association? Jim & Kathy, please keep the neighborhood posted on any imminent plans to tear down these towers. It’s not just about improved views, the towers as an eye-sore, or multiple city blocks turning into a ghost town in an otherwise vibrant neighborhood. — MattieNYC on Another one bites the dust: Gristedes to close in BPC
Re plastic bag ban, we’ve been using the soon-to-be-banned plastic bags for our small under the sink trash bin for 35 yrs. Then we tie trash up before dropping it in our apt building trash chute. So, I’ll either have to shop more frequently at the businesses with exceptions (pharmacies and fruit/veg stands), or buy them in bulk online (there are biodegradable bags). Suggestions welcome. I’ve written State and City officials and no solutions. — Steve on Seen & Heard: Mr. Dips coming to Pier 17

Re: 56 Leonard on Business Insider- I haven't seen that much fawning since the opening of Bambi. The only thing the entrance blends in with is itself, as there are no other modern glass facades anywhere near it on Church Street. And their fact checking leaves a lot to be desired- Freedom Tower? One World Trade has not been officially called that since early 2009. And zip code 10007 actually only covers less than 1/3 of Tribeca, with 10013 being the predominant one. It's bad enough we have that 821 foot tall object watching over us like an overlord, no matter where we are in the neighborhood, but to read non-stop platitudes like it is some gift or part of the neighborhood is deeply offensive. — Mr. B on In the News: The age of the city diner
