Read about Uhuru in the Tribeca Citizen Shopping Guide.
The burgeoning design district of northeast Tribeca has taken a hit: Brooklyn furniture company Uhuru closed its Franklin Street showroom.
Drawing on the architecture of the building, formerly a lantern factory, Ashley Darryl designed this three-bedroom apartment to be "modern in the lines and rustic in the materials."
The April issue of Dwell features the spartan-but-warm West Street loft of microfinancier Mark Berryman and his dog, Leji. It was designed by Workstead, whose work you know from Arcade Bakery. / 3 comments
Hanukkah is underway and you have just over two weeks till Christmas—and those of us who have to mail gifts really need to step on it. So let's get out there! In this round: Stella, Uhuru, Pamper UR Pets, Espasso, Otte.
Plus: The fashion show at the PATH/Brookfield Place corridor; Uhuru's jewelry line has launched; De Niro's Bernie Madoff movie shot here again; a chance to climb Governors Island's new hill; Ray Bradbury's house. / 1 comment
With its emphasis on reclaimed materials, the furniture in Uhuru's new showroom—the company's first—tends to have a story, which is why they call it "narrative design."
Brooklyn furniture company Uhuru's first store will be on Franklin Street (and it'll also sell jewelry).
And the inaugural Tribeca Night—timed with NYCxDesign but open to everyone—is next week, with many members staying open late and serving refreshments. Go pay a visit or ten! / 4 comments
