New Kid on the Block: JinSoon

JinSoon Tribeca manicure stationsJin Soon Choi was looking for office space for her nail lacquer line when she realized the duplex at 37 Walker was also the perfect spot for a fourth JinSoon salon. With twelve manicure stations and eight pedicure stations, it’s much larger than her other salons in the East and West Village and on the Upper East Side. That means more room for clients, of course, and also that the salon can offer bigger private events.

What sets JinSoon salons apart? “You can see it, right?” she says. “I want people to be able to relax in a setting that’s not factory-like, with nice design and a warm feeling.” Credit must be shared with her husband, architect John Coughlan; they fell in love after she hired him for her first salon.

The polish brands, displayed on a wall like art, include JinSoon’s own, as well as Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Dolce & Gabbana, Dior, Nars, CND Shallac, Butter London, and Zoya. There’s a “photo booth” embedded in the ribbon wall for sharing your new nails, and—to help save time—hand and foot dryers under the manicure stations so that completed nails can start drying while the rest get worked on. Waxing is also available.

JinSoon is at 37 Walker (between Church and Broadway), 212-941-4663; jinsoon.com.
